Auto Theft in Vancouver:
Time, Transit, and Zoning
The Three Considerations
Time
Crime data was provided with a monthly temporal scale. Using this information, spatial changes may be studied as a result of changes in time. The overall number of thefts per month may also be compared on a monthly basis to determine if there is a particular time of year in which car theft is more or less likely.
Zoning
How does the zoning of a particular neighbourhood or area affect car theft? Are there particular zoning districts that experience a higher than expected number of car thefts? The findings of these questions have implications for the dominant boolean model of zonal planing.
Transit
What is the relationship between public transportation and location of auto theft? In order to study this important question, bus transportation will be used to represent transit as it is the most accessable and dispersed form of public transportation.
